The three leaders vow to bring a 'lasting ceasefire' to Syria at summit in Ankara

  • Iran's Hassan Rouhani joined President Erdogan and President Putin in Ankara Wednesday for talks on Syria
  • Leaders are attempting to put aside their differences to achieve a 'lasting ceasefire' in the war-torn country
  • Trio form unlikely allies as Iran and Russia back the Syrian regime while Turkey backs Free Syrian Army rebels
  • Partnership is increasingly diminishing western influence in the region, as Trump mulls pulling troops out

The leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran met in Ankara for talks today as they cemented their unlikely alliance over Syria in a challenge to US and western influence in the region.

President Putin, President Erdogan and President Rouhani vowed to work together to create a 'lasting ceasefire', build a hospital for wounded civilians in Eastern Ghouta, and allow refugees to return home.

But the deepening ties between the trio will be a concern to the US as its ability to influence the future of the country wains and President Trump openly mulls pulling troops out and dropping support for the Kurds.

Russia backs the Syrian government in the civil war (in red) and is joined by Iran and increasingly Turkey, though Turkey also backs rebel groups in the country's north (hash-marked red area) which are pitted against Assad. Meanwhile US influence largely relies on Kurdish groups (top right), though its support has been waning amid protests from Ankara

Russia Influence in ME

Russia and Iran are strategic partners, with Russia providing military and financial support in return for influence over the Middle East. Turkey, meanwhile, had been courting membership of the European Union but in the past few years has drawn closer to Russia. These deepening ties are of concern to Europe because Turkey acts as an important buffer zone for migrants, filters out jihadis attempting to cross the border, and is a NATO member

Iran and Russia have backed the Syrian regime since the start of the civil war, while Turkey has called for Assad to go from power and still backs anti-Assad rebels. However, Erdogan has formed an unlikely partnership with Putin as he attempts to drive armed Kurdish groups from his borders

Since the cold war Russia and Iran have been allies in their opposition to the United States and both are strong military and political backers of Syria.

Now Turkey has joined their efforts to protect Assad because it wants to crush US-backed Kurdish forces massing on its border.

Turkey and Russia have also been drawn together after President Erdogan announced his country would be purchasing Russian arms.

The deal $2.5 billion for the S-400 sophisticated anti-aircraft missiles, signed at the end of last year, came despite Turkey's membership of Nato.

The countries are now cooperating on Syrian peace efforts as well as projects in the defense industry and energy sectors, including $20 billion deal to build Turkey's first nuclear power station, which began construction yesterday.

Russia is Iran's major supplier of arms and last year the two nations signed a $30 billion energy co-operation deal.

Through these deals Russia now finds itself in the position of having influence in Turkey as well as Iran.

Those two countries themselves exert huge influence beyond their borders.

Turkey controls much of the flow of middle eastern refugees into Europe.

It signed a deal with the EU in March 2016 to reduce the number of migrants by agreeing to take back those whose asylum application has failed or who fail to apply for asylum.  If it reversed this deal the political consequences in Europe would be enormous.

Iran has been accused of supplying arms to the Taliban by the government of Afghanistan.

Another SIGN of just how close we are to Christ's Return.  Bible Prophecy has long shown that Turkey will never be a member of the EU and will withdraw from NATO as the Bible reveals that Turkey and Iran will have a close relationship with Russia in the lead up to mans final conflict and the return of Christ.  Ezekiel 38:1-9

The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog (chief one ie. the leader), of the land of Magog (Germany and surrounding areas), the chief prince of Meshek (Moscow) and Tubal (Tobolski); prophesy against him 3 and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek (Moscow) and Tubal (Tobolski) 4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia (Iran), Cush (Ethiopia) and Put (Libya) will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you. The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshek and Tubal; prophesy against him 3 and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia (Iran), Cush (Ethiopia) and Put (Libya) will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer (France) with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you. 7 “ ‘Get ready; be prepared, you and all the hordes gathered about you, and take command of them. 8 After many days you will be called to arms. In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and now all of them live in safety. 9 You and all your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.

So keep watching this development with Turkey and Iran as they move closer in their ties to Russia. Based on Bible Prophecy Turkey and Iran will both be with Russia and Europe when they invade the Middle East as described in Ezekiel 38.   We fully expect to see Russia become more closely linked to Europe militarily whereby Russia will become a "guard" unto the European Nations according to Ezekiel 38:7.

WHY IS BIBLE TRUTH SO IMPORTANT?

Bible Truth

THE IMPORTANCE OF BIBLE TRUTH

Is Bible Truth important to your Faith and Salvation ie. will you be saved despite what you believe the bible teaches or does it matter what you believe?

Well the word “truth” appears 237 times in the bible, that alone says it must be important!

Therefore it must be important to understand what “truth” is.

A quick scan of the passages using this word “truth” leave us in no doubt that it is not only important, but vital to our salvation.

John 17:3

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 John 5:20

20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

1 Timothy 2:3-4

3For thisis good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Clearly then knowing what is Bible Truth is important and vital, in addition to this we are also warned that some would depart from the “truth”…

1 Timothy 4:1

1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1 John 4:6

6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

From these passages it is very clear that we need to know the “truth” about God and His Son as it is taught to us in the Bible.  This means we must learn what this is from the Bible itself.

Don't let your HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL rest with someone else eg. your pastor or minister, YOU owe it to yourself and your family to be fully convinced of what it is you believe to be sure it HOLDS something REAL for you.

We have all been warned by God that there would be many false teachers and Jesus himself has told us that "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."  See Matthew 7:14

Sadly when Christ returns to this earth, many will only then realise that they have believed in lies Jeremiah 16:19

"19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit."

Don't let this be you or your family!

BIBLE TRUTH and true faith must be founded on a fully inspired Bible.

The OFFER of LIFE or DEATH

God's Offer of LIFE or DEATH

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.   See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him… This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life…"  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

From this passage we see how important it is to each one of us that we seek after God and His Word the Bible to us.

Without this we have no hope of LIFE, but only a future of DEATH.

This Word of God was originally given to the Nation of Israel and later it spread via the Apostles of Christ to the World, that even we today might have this same HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL.

It is UP to YOU then to seek out God’s Word, to KNOW what is the TRUTH of God’s Word so that you and your family might KNOW the way of LIFE ETERNAL and the great HOPE of living in God’s Kingdom on EARTH.

Do not let your HOPE rest upon others and most importantly on what others teach, search it out for yourself because we have been warned that the churches would be astray from God’s word in the last days.

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”   2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Godis a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

The Bible Is Our ONLY Guide

The Holy BibleThe Bible provides us with plain Scriptural Teaching for the True Followers of Christ

The statements on this guide represent what we believe is true Bible teaching. The statements are deliberately challenging, asking every reader to compare his own opinions with the plain teaching of Scripture, examining carefully the Bible passages offered as proof. If, as a result, a change of mind and heart is called for, there will be no doubt that the teaching of the Lord, and the book he trusted, must be followed and not what the churches teach.

All Scripture quotations are taken from the New King James (also known as the Revised Authorized) Version of the Bible.

The Promises to David

Print

True Bible Teaching - What the Bible really says about God and His Purpose

The Promises to David

The promise to David

The promise to David is the third of the great promises made by God upon which all further revelations are based. This promise isKing David of Israel essential if one it to understand the Bible and especially if one is to appreciate what the Bible teaches about Jesus Christ.

Background to David’s life

David was a divinely nominated King of Israel and described in the scriptures as “a man after God’s own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14). Although he was not perfect he had an amazing faith in God and desired to see God glorified above all else.

David, by conquest had extended the Kingdom of Israel to its greatest extent and God had given King David “rest from his enemies” and had made his house to prosper. In light of this David wanted to build a temple for the worship of God.

In response to this God told him, through the prophet Nathan that He would not allow him to build the temple but his son, Solomon would. However God promised David that He would actually build David a house and this promise, along with its details forms another foundation promise of the gospel. The most significant part of this promise is that the seed of David would sit upon his throne, as king, ruling over an everlasting Kingdom. This is in fact the further unfolding of a previous promise God gave to Abraham:

“In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:” Genesis 15-18

The promised seed (descendant) therefore is connected with the land of Israel.

Why is this important?

If you study what the Bible says about Jesus, you will note that there are lots of references to King David and the promises made to him. Jesus is to fulfil these promises and therefore to understand them is to appreciate what Gods purpose through Jesus Christ’s is. Consider the following:

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” Isaiah 9:6-7

“And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will. Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:” Acts 13:22-23

“I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.” Revelation 22:16

What was promised to David?

The promise to David is recorded in 2 Samuel 7. It’s different aspects have been defined below:

  • Israel, God’s chosen people, would eventually settle and would be safe (this is yet to be fulfilled!) – 2 Samuel 7:10
  • The promised seed (see promises to Abraham and the promise in Eden) would be a decendant of David – 2 Samuel 7:12
  • This seed (or decendant) would build a house for God – 2 Samuel 7:13
  • God, as well as David would be the seed’s Father – he would be the “Son of God” – 2 Samuel 7:14
  • God’s mercy would remain with David’s seed – 2 Samuel 7:14-15
  • David’s throne an Kingdom is to be established FOREVER – 2 Samuel 7:13-16
  • The throne and the seed would be done “before” David (e.g. in front of him) – 2 Samuel 7:26

What does this mean?

This covenant has not yet been fulfilled. Jesus was the seed (descendant) of David who was to come. Here are two references in the gospels to prove this:

“He (Jesus) shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end”. Luke 1:32-33

“The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham”. Matthew 1:1

So Christ then was the descendant (or seed) of David but also he was the son of God as was promised to David:

“And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God”. Luke 1:35

The promise stated that David would see his descendant (Christ) sitting on his throne, the throne of David in Jerusalem and that his Kingdom would continue forever. This is to happen in the future when Jesus Christ returns to the earth to establish that kingdom.

“And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again… And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David“. Acts 13:32-34

David himself realized that this covenant would be fulfilled through one greater than himself and he spake of this in one of his Psalms which the apostle Paul later picks up on:

“My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven”. Psalm 89:34-37

“THE LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.” Psalm 132:11

“THE LORD (God) said unto my Lord (David’s seed), Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool”. Psalm 110:1

“Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ”. Acts 2:29-36

Clearly then, the Bible teaches that David must be resurrected, that Jesus Christ must come back to the earth to sit upon David’s and set up a Kingdom which will last forever. This will be a re-establishment of the Kingdom of God (over which David ruled). God told the last king, King Zedekiah, this:

“Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown… I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it (The Kingdom of Israel): and it shall be no more, until he (Jesus Christ) come  whose right it is; and I will give it him”. Ezekiel 21:26-27

So this Kingdom then is to be re-established in the future. The one who is to come of whom God will give the Kingdom is Jesus Christ, the descendant of David and son of God.

“Behold, the days come, saith THE LORD, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness. For thus saith THE LORD; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel”. Jeremiah 33:14-17

In Hebrews 11 we have a list of faithful followers of God. David is mentioned in verse 32. We also read in that chapter the following:

“And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.” Hebrews 11:39-40

So then these promises are in the future and we can be associated with them by belief in them, being baptized and following a faithful life.  Peter tells us that by having a knowledge of these things that there have been:

“…given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust”. 2 Peter 1:4
