God's Plan for this World and You

THE view of planet earth, seen from outer space, is very beautiful indeed. Confirmation of this has come from the astronauts who have gazed upon it. The earth is the fairest jewel in God's creation and it is the chosen place in the whole universe where He has promised to reveal His Kingdom in all its glory. That is why it is so beautiful.

The earth, of all the planets in the solar system, is the one that is perfectly suited to all forms of life and the one that orbits at exactly the right distance from the sun to provide comfortable conditions for the human race.

WHY IS BIBLE TRUTH SO IMPORTANT?

Bible Truth

THE IMPORTANCE OF BIBLE TRUTH

Is Bible Truth important to your Faith and Salvation ie. will you be saved despite what you believe the bible teaches or does it matter what you believe?

Well the word “truth” appears 237 times in the bible, that alone says it must be important!

Therefore it must be important to understand what “truth” is.

A quick scan of the passages using this word “truth” leave us in no doubt that it is not only important, but vital to our salvation.

John 17:3

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 John 5:20

20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

1 Timothy 2:3-4

3For thisis good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Clearly then knowing what is Bible Truth is important and vital, in addition to this we are also warned that some would depart from the “truth”…

1 Timothy 4:1

1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1 John 4:6

6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

From these passages it is very clear that we need to know the “truth” about God and His Son as it is taught to us in the Bible.  This means we must learn what this is from the Bible itself.

Don't let your HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL rest with someone else eg. your pastor or minister, YOU owe it to yourself and your family to be fully convinced of what it is you believe to be sure it HOLDS something REAL for you.

We have all been warned by God that there would be many false teachers and Jesus himself has told us that "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."  See Matthew 7:14

Sadly when Christ returns to this earth, many will only then realise that they have believed in lies Jeremiah 16:19

"19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit."

Don't let this be you or your family!

What We Believe

True Bible Teaching fundamental beliefs are:

  1. The Bible is God's word and the only message from him. It is without error, except for copying and translation errors.
  2. There is only one God - the Father. The Holy Spirit is God's power.
  3. Jesus is the Son of God, and a human being, through his mother Mary.
  4. Man is mortal, having no existence when dead.
  5. By living a sinless life, ending with his sacrificial death by crucifixion, Jesus has opened the way of salvation from death.
  6. Belief and baptism are essential steps to salvation.
  7. God raised Jesus from death. Jesus is currently in Heaven, on God's right hand. He will one day return.
  8. When Jesus returns, he will raise his "sleeping" followers from death and grant immortality to the faithful who have tried to live by God's precepts.
  9. His followers will help him to rule, bringing justice, righteousness and peace to the whole world - the Kingdom of God.

The Bible is our only true source for the Truth!

If we claim to follow Christ we should trust in the Scriptures as confidently as Jesus and his Apostles did:

Jesus said that: The Scripture cannot be broken.  (John 10:35)

Paul said that: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16)

Peter said that: For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21)

The things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven (1 Peter 1:12)

The OFFER of LIFE or DEATH

God's Offer of LIFE or DEATH

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.   See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him… This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life…"  Deuteronomy Chapter 30:12-20

From this passage we see how important it is to each one of us that we seek after God and His Word the Bible to us.

Without this we have no hope of LIFE, but only a future of DEATH.

This Word of God was originally given to the Nation of Israel and later it spread via the Apostles of Christ to the World, that even we today might have this same HOPE of LIFE ETERNAL.

It is UP to YOU then to seek out God’s Word, to KNOW what is the TRUTH of God’s Word so that you and your family might KNOW the way of LIFE ETERNAL and the great HOPE of living in God’s Kingdom on EARTH.

Do not let your HOPE rest upon others and most importantly on what others teach, search it out for yourself because we have been warned that the churches would be astray from God’s word in the last days.

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”   2 Timothy 4:3-4

Too much is at stake for you to not act yourself to seek out the TRUTH.

Christ himself has told us to do this when he said…

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Godis a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

The Bible Is Our ONLY Guide

The Holy BibleThe Bible provides us with plain Scriptural Teaching for the True Followers of Christ

The statements on this guide represent what we believe is true Bible teaching. The statements are deliberately challenging, asking every reader to compare his own opinions with the plain teaching of Scripture, examining carefully the Bible passages offered as proof. If, as a result, a change of mind and heart is called for, there will be no doubt that the teaching of the Lord, and the book he trusted, must be followed and not what the churches teach.

All Scripture quotations are taken from the New King James (also known as the Revised Authorized) Version of the Bible.

True Bible Teaching - About You and God and Your Hope of Salvation

The Holy Spirit Revealed

God's Holy SpiritTHE HOLY SPIRIT REVEALED

On Holy Ground

This is a subject to be approached with reference and awe. God's Holy Spirit cannot be seperated from God himself. It is His mind, His character, His word and His breath. Very simply the Holy Spirit is God's power by which he created the world, sustains his creation, controls world governments and the lives of believers today. And it is so much more than this!

What does "spirit" mean?

The Hebrew word translated as "spirit" in the Old Testament strictly means "breath" or "power"; thus God's spirit is His "breathing", the very essence of God, reflecting His mind. It is not a separate person from God. It is a common Bible teaching that how a man thinks is expressed in his actions (Prov. 23:7; Mt. 12:34). A little reflection upon our own actions will confirm this; we think of something and then we do it. God likewise thinks and therefore does things: "Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand" (NIV, Isaiah 14:24).

The Holy Spirit of God moved on the face of the EarthMany passages clearly identify God's spirit with His power. In order to create the earth, "…the spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light" (NIV,Gen. 1:2,3). God's spirit was the power by which all things, e.g. light, were made.

A comparison of Mt. 12:28 and Lk. 11:20 shows that "the finger of God" and "the spirit of God" are parallel - God in action is His spirit. "By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and their starry host by the breath of His mouth" (Ps. 33:6). God's spirit is therefore described as follows:

  1. His breath
  2. His word
  3. His finger
  4. His hand

It is therefore His power by which He achieves all things. The spirit given to us, and all creation, is what sustains our life. We have "the breath of the spirit of life" within us (AV,Gen. 7:22 ) given to us by God at birth (Ps. 104:30; Gen. 2:7). God is the life force which sustains all creation, His spirit is present everywhere (Ps. 139:2,7,9,10).

An understanding of the true God and His very real presence all around us by His spirit can totally change our concept of life. We are surrounded by the spirit, constantly witnessing its actions, which reveal God to us.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

At various times in His dealings with men, God gave the use of His power ("Holy Spirit") to men. However, this was never in the form of a "blank cheque", as it were, enabling them to do what they wished; always the use of this Holy Spirit was for a specific purpose. When it was accomplished, the gift of the Holy Spirit was withdrawn. We must remember that God's spirit acts in a way which fulfils the purpose which is in His mind. The gifts of Holy Spirit were always to achieve specific things at specific times. Here is an example:

  • The TabernacleEarly in Israel's history, they were commanded to make an elaborate tent ("tabernacle") in which the altar and other holy items could be kept; detailed instructions were given concerning how to make all the items which would be necessary for the worship of God. To accomplish this, God gave His spirit to certain men. They were, "filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments..." etc. (AV, Ex. 28:3).

Reasons For The Gifts In The First Century

Remembering the basic principles which we have already learnt about the gifts of God's spirit, we now come to the New Testament record of the spirit gifts which were possessed in the early church (i.e. the groups of believers who lived in the generation after the time of Jesus).

Christ's last command was for the apostles to go throughout the world preaching the Gospel (Mk. 16:15,16). This they did, with the theme of Christ's death and resurrection foremost in their message. But remember that then there was no New Testament as we know it. As they stood in market places and synagogues speaking about this man Jesus of Nazareth, their story could have sounded bizarre - a carpenter from Israel who was perfect, who died and was then resurrected in accurate fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, and who was now asking them to be baptised and follow His example.

In our day we appeal to the New Testament records of the work and doctrine of Jesus in order to prove that our message is from God; but in those days, before it was written down and available, God allowed His preachers the use of His Holy Spirit in order to underline the truth of what they were saying. This was the specific reason for the use of the gifts in the sight of the world; the absence of the written New Testament would have also made it difficult for the new groups of believers to grow in their faith.

As ever, these reasons for the granting of the Holy Spirit were made abundantly plain:

  • "When he [Jesus] ascended up on high [to heaven], he...gave [spirit] gifts unto men...for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry [preaching], for the edifying of the body of Christ [i.e. the believers]" (AV, Eph. 4:8,12).
  • So Paul wrote to the believers at Rome, "I long to see you, so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong" (NIV, Rom. 1:11).

Concerning the use of the gifts to confirm the preaching of the Gospel, we read:

  • "God also testified to it [the message of salvation] by signs, wonders and various miracles" (NIV, Heb. 2:4).
  • "When the proconsul saw what had happened [i.e. a miracle], he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord" (NIV, Acts 13:12).

All this is summarised by the comment on the apostles' obedience of the command to preach: "Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it" (NIV, Mk. 16:20).

The Withdrawal of the Gifts

The miraculous gifts of God's spirit will be used again by the believers in order to change this present world into God's Kingdom, after the return of Christ. The gifts are therefore called "the powers of the coming age" (NIV, Heb. 6:4,5); and Joel 2:26-29 describes a great outpouring of the spirit gifts after the repentance of Israel. The very fact that these gifts will be given to the believers on Christ's return is proof enough that they are not possessed now. To any Christian, with eyes open to both Scripture and world events, the Lord's return must surely be soon.

From all the Biblical records of the use of spirit gifts, it is clear that they were given at particular times for particular purposes and were withdrawn by God when His purpose was accomplished:

"Where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues [the ability to speak foreign languages, in order to preach], they will be stilled… but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears" (NIV, 1 Cor. 13:8-10).

As the Good News Bible clearly states: the gifts "are temporary".

Eph. 4:8-14 helps us understand this further. This passage explains that the gifts of the first century were to be given until the perfect, or mature, man was reached. Making such a fuss about possessing the spirit gifts is therefore not a sign of spiritual maturity. The progress each reader of these words should now make, is towards a deeper appreciation of the written Word of God, to rejoice in the completeness of God's basic revelation of Himself to us through it, and to respond to it in humble obedience.

2 Tim. 3:16,17 teaches that response to "all scripture" enables the man of God to be "perfect", complete, and mature. So once the New Testament was completed, towards the end of the first century, the gifts were no longer needed. They had achieved their purpose, of enabling the church to become "fully equipped" (Eph. 4:8 Weymouth). When the Bible was completed, the church was indeed fully equipped to preach the gospel of salvation.

Present Claims Of Spirit Possession

A number of other points have to be made concerning the repeated claims of those who think they now possess the miraculous gifts. Whatever one makes of the above arguments for the withdrawal of the gifts, the reality is that the present claims to Spirit gift possession are sadly in conflict with the nature of the gifts as recorded in the New Testament. Whatever is being done today is different from that which happened in the early church.

Present "speaking in tongues" tends to repeat the same short syllables over and over again e.g. "Lala, lala, lala, shama, shama. Jesus, Jesus...". This is not in the syntax associated with any language; when one hears someone speak in a foreign tongue, it is usually possible to discern that they are communicating something by the pattern of words they use, although we may not understand those words. Yet modern tongue-speaking does not feature this, underlining the fact that it is not building up the church, which was the purpose of the first century gifts.

Some Pentecostals claim that speaking in tongues is a sign of being "saved" and will therefore accompany every true conversion. This claim runs into serious difficulty with the description of the early church as a body, in which those possessing different gifts were like the different parts. Not everyone was an arm or leg, and so likewise not everyone possessed any one gift, e.g. tongues. 1 Cor. 12:17, 27-30 makes this clear.

Another problem for the Pentecostal argument is that Philip converted many people in Samaria - i.e. they were baptised in water after understanding the Gospel, but they did not receive the spirit gifts; because after this, Peter and John came to them: "When they arrived they prayed for them, and they received the Holy Spirit… the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands" (NIV, Acts 8:4-18).

Apart from a few specific examples it seems that the passing on of the Spirit gifts was only by this laying on of hands, which is not frequently practised by modern claimants. Thus Paul wanted to visit the Romans in order to give them the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 1:11 cf. Eph. 4:12). It would therefore follow that once the generation who had this power passed away, there was no way of continuing the gifts. If indeed they are obtainable purely by prayer, it is difficult to understand why Paul had to visit Rome to transfer the gifts to them there. The only answer must be that "through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given".

God's Declared Purpose with YOU and the EARTH

ARE YOU SAVED?  IF SO HOW ARE YOU SAVED?

Is YOUR knowledge of the BIBLE

and YOUR belief and worship of GOD

able to SAVE YOU?

Not sure? Well consider this passage from JOHN CHAPTER 17

"1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do."

The Greek word for "know" is 'genosko' and it means to have a thorough intellectual understanding of what something is all about.

Do you have this understanding of God and His Son

Jesus Christ?

The need for this full understanding of the TRUTH is further underlined by Christ's words in John 17:17Only a TRUE understanding of the Word of God can Save YOU

We are sanctified in our understanding of God's word of Truth ie. set apart as special unto God and Christ, without this we cannot be saved.  Just as Israel were not saved when they strayed from their TRUE knowledge of God.

God's special people the nation of Israel were destroyed for lack of knowledge as we read in Hosea 4:1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

In Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee.

In Hosea 6:6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

The Apostle Paul has warned us that some would not be in the Faith (ie. the true knowledge of God and Christ)...

1 Timothly 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
And again by the Apostle Peter...

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

And in 2 Thessalonians where the Apostle Paul tells us that some would fall away from "the Truth" he says that this would be becaused they had lost their love of the Truth and had chosen rather to believe a lie.

2 Thessalonians 2:10-12

"10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

And so the Apostle Paul counselled us all to Work out OUR OWN SALVATION...

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

You owe it to yourself and your family to seek the Truth

about God, His Son Jesus and His purpose with you

and this earth.
